The pastoral office of the Sudan/South Sudan Catholic Bishops’ Conference is for and at the service of the Bishops. Under the leadership of the Commission for Pastoral work, this office is dedicated to the programs which flow from the inspiration and guidance of the Bishops’ Conference as stated by the decree proclaimed by Pope Paul VI in 1965 that “An Episcopal Conference is, as it were, a council in which the bishops of a given nation or territory jointly exercise their pastoral office to promote the greater good which the Church offers mankind, especially through the forms and methods of the apostolate fittingly adapted to the circumstances of the age (Christus Dominus 38.1)”. On this ground the Pastoral Office has the responsibility of creating pastoral programs that reflect the unity, collegiality and image of Christ who prayed for his followers that “may they all be one” (John 17:21).
